The 65 Fairlane HiPo

Most people forget about the 1965 Fairlane and more so the
65 High-Performance Fairlane.

This page will try to remind you that 65's had a place in Fairlane history too.
According to the 289 high performance Fairlane registry, there were
less than 100 of these K-Code Fairlanes produced in 1965.

The high-performance 289 came in the sedan and hardtop models
and was avaiable with the 4/speed and the Cruise-O-Matic.

The vin. number of a hipo car has a "K" for the engine code.

Some of the features of the 289 High-Performance Engine
High-Compression Cylinder Heads - The compression ratio of 10.5 to 1
provides maximum power from premium grade fuel.
High-Performance Camshaft - Specially contoured lobes for high-lift valve
opening and greater valve overlap, while retaining smooth idel characteristics.
Free-Flow Exhaust System - Individual headers minimize back pressure
and "pulse" from adjoining cylinders. Dual exhaust pipes provide
minimium restriction with pleasing, yet quiet exhaust sound.
Free-Breathing Intake System - Maximum efficiency at high rpm from
the special four-barrel carburetor, tuned low-restriction air cleaner,
and unobstructed, direct intake manifold passages.
Solid Valve Lifters - Precise valve action at all speeds
plus "fine tuning" for competition events.
Racing-Type Air Cleaner - Low restriction for maximum efficiency
under hig-speed conditions.
Chrome-Plated Valve Stems - Reduced friction for greater durability.

Here is a great example of the 65 Fairlane Hi-Po Fairlane  Owner: Gary Piertraniec
This is a complete matching numbers, original Oklahoma car ordered from Doenges Ford in Bartlesville,
Oklahoma, with factory options of 289 high performance engine, 4-speed T-5 trans, and factory 4:11 rear end.
It has the original vin number stamped engine block, and all tags are intact, including carb, trans, rear end and engine.
It now has an original Ford tri-power with correct carbs and air cleaner installed. I also have the original Autolite
carb and manifold. It was featured in the May 2001 issue of Muscle Car Review.
