Disc brake swap Joe Nesbitt's way Vs PST way

    The Car I have is a 66 Fairlane , first I went to my local junk yard and

    purchased two Granada spindles complete with rotors calipers backing

    plates etc.

    The guy @ the junk yard asked if I was doing a Granada swap when I told

    him yes he through in the master cylinder with the proportioning valve free.

    I couldn't use the master but the proportioning valve worked after I plumed it

    in. if I had a 67 with power brakes the master cylinder would have worked

    .Next I went to my local parts house got a manual master cylinder for a 71

    ford truck with manual disc front and rear drum this master cylinder is

    cool because it comes with two rod attachments for the pedal a short&long one use
    the one matches your old one.

    Then I got my front end parts, now if I had a 67 I would use stock inner tie rod ends
    and Granada outers but I have a 66 and the inner on a 66 is much shorter so I used
    a 67 inner and it works perfect.

    Then I went to the PST web site and printed there instructions on how to

    rebuild your front end. On my day off I started the project first I got a

    six pack then I went to work . If you have an air hammer get a ball joint

    remover end for it that tool will be worth its weight in gold . I only ran

    into three problems the first one was in the PST directions says once you

    remove the spindle assy. and lower your jack from the lower control arm

    assy. the spring should come right out well mine didn't so I had to

    compress the spring then remove the upper control arm the spring came right out

    .Then the old upper ball joints were riveted in so I drilled the tops of

    the rivets then hit them with a chisel and they popped off then hit the

    ball joint they came right out and the new ones bolted right in. The third

    problem was I ran out of beer and my car was tore apart so there was no

    fixing this problem this is a 12 pack job for future reference. every thing

    bolted up and worked perfect other than those problems. I also cut one coil

    off my springs lowering my car 2.5 in. what's cool about

    this is theirs no press work involved and no special tools the only

    difference between my way and the PST supper kit is that I used my old upper

    control arms I just rebuilt them but the lower control arms came with lower

    ball joints like PST sells them and I got shocks but I didn't get a pitman

    arm I have about $370.00 in the front end vs. the PST $499.00+tax and ship

    and handling in the brakes I got $290.00 vs. PST $829.00 +tax and ship and

    handling. I also picked the parts up a little @ a time so it didn't take

    all my funds @ once.

    I got lucky my calipers were fine I turned my Rotors and repacked my

    bearings even if I changed that stuff to I would have still saved big time.

    I got my parts from Pep boys and Corbin auto parts in Palmdale Ca. most of
    the stuff was moog which is quality stuff


    Well I did it thanks to Joe B,Chag and woody,s site of course I found out that 66 and 67
    are not the same on a 66 you have to change the inner tie rod to es363rl by moog which
    is the part# for a inner on a 67 stock so if you have the 67 you dont need to change the
    inner, also I've seen some questions regarding price on the Granada swap vs. PST I rebuilt
    my front end and did the bakes for $650.00 this includes shocks to get the brakes and the front
    end parts from PST would run around $1300.00 and you would not receive shocks thanks for
    everyone's help if anyone has questions just ask.
