Things To Look For Before Restoration

Fairlanes

A = Front Frame Rail
Clean undercoat from frame rails. Look for cracked or rusted areas and tap with
pointed hammer for soft spots.
B= Torque Boxes
This is a critical part ot the structure on the Fairlane. Clean undercoat and look for
cracked or rusted areas.
C= Rocker Panels
Look on back side of rocker panels. Clean undercoat and look for cracked or rusted areas.
If this area is weak it may cause the car to sag in the niddle causing the doors
to not shut properly.
D= Rear Frame Rails
As before clean undercoat and look for cracked or rusted areas. One trouble
spot here is where the rear spring shackles bolt to the frame rail.
Two Other Problem Areas
1 - Look in the trunk area around the gas tank and the top of the frame rails.
2 - The Cowl Panel is the area under the wiper arms between the firewall and
the dash panel. Look under the dash where the fresh air vents bolt on. This is a good
place for rust because of the water that lays in the cowl.
All the places I mention can be replaced or repaired with hard work and time.
Just think you are preserving a piece of history and when it is finshed you will be proud.
