Dan Bond's 1964 Fairlane 500
· Purchased the Fairlane 500 in August 2008 in Tigard, Oregon after it had
been partially restored by its previous owner. He flew into Portland from
Central California and then drove the car home. While the car was
cosmetically good, the steering and suspension made for an uncomfortable and
sometimes scary 12 hour drive home. After that experience, the first
priority became upgrading the suspension.
The car has been transformed to handle better than many new cars. The tired
front suspension was converted to a strut suspension using RRS components
with 12" disc brakes and a larger front sway bar. The rear end was
converted to a narrowed 9" with a 31 spline 3.25:1 posi, and a Martz Racing
4-link coil over setup. The rear was also mini-tubbed and is now home to
17x9.5" Torq-Thrust II wheels.
The interior is basically stock, but now includes a pair of Corbeau seats
for added comfort, and a factory console and shifter from a Galaxie. The
engine is a very mild 302, but a 347 is in the works.
