Peter D'angelo's 1968 Fairlane 500 Convertible
Hello Fairlane fans -I purchased this car in April 2008 from the orginal owners son. This car is a Fairlane 500 convertible with the F code 302 and the C4 transmission, it has 86 thousand original miles and it looks runs and rides great. The only power is top and steering.
I looked at over 20 Fairlanes in a year and a half before pulling the trigger on this great value. I wanted either a 66 or 67 2 door hard top or a 68 or 69 convertilbe, one of those 4 cars only but mostly I wanted a really nice car at a really fair price.
The owners son was given this car to drive to and from college in the 70's. After that the car was painted, orginal color x dark blue metalic ( presidential blue ), new top , brakes, radiator and a few other fixes and then driven very little and put in an uncles barn.
When I purchase the car it hadn't been started in almost 3 years but I was certain it was going to be no problem getting it going again. Let me also say at this time that I purchased the car without telling the wife. I needed to have it running before I dropped the bomb.
We trailered it to a friend's house to get it going and we purchased tune up parts on the ride there. We installed only the points and coil and gave it a try, it fired in less than a split second with out even hearing it turn over it was running. We were amazed, the whole time we finished the tune up and we also changed all the hoses, belts, and fluids we talked about how easily the car started. Next stop was the state inspection, it passed without any problems and everything worked.I had it licensed and insured before I showed it to the Mrs. She was still as mad as a wet hen but she's getting over it I think.
I still have a few things I'd like to do such as a new white top, the one that replaced the original is light blue and I don't like it. It was originally white and will be that way again soon. For now I'm just enjoying the top down rides all over town.
The fairlane looks awesome parked next to my 1967 mustang fastback. but the first car I ever owned in 1972 was a 1969 Fairlane, it's great to be back as a Fairlane owner.
Thanks for listening to me ramble on. Peter D'angelo
