Rick Schutte's 1967 Fairlane GT/A Convertible
· Found this 1967 GTA Convertible in the Desert… It’s been sitting in a Victorville back yard for some time, in pretty bad shape I might add but…original motor and C4 trans were in it. Wife said; I couldn’t let it go, I had to “save it.” So I made sure its numbers were matching, and talked the guy down to $1800 before trailoring it home. Neighbors saw it and thought I lost my mind. First thing was removing all the cob webs and nasty critters hidden in her recesses…a few black widows but no scorpions or brown recluse. Then I took my time dismantling it, Floor boards were bad, small rust spots on doors and rear fenders, trunk was good, frame sound. Welded in new floor boards, new metal in the doors and rear quarters. Motor; Pulled original 289, (yes GTA’s came with 289) I bored this “virgin block” 10 over, balanced it, installed a 347 Stroker kit, real nice cam, ford GT heads, Eldebrach intake, Holley 4 barrel, headers, complete Flow master 50 Series exhaust system… pushing horsepower up around 400 (she will outrun a 390 ). New battery, Alternator, Solenoid, starter, belts, hoses, vacuum lines, hi flow water pump, radiator, heater core, etc. power steering lines and hoses…you name it, tastefully done. Transmition; Sent to Ford… rebuilt and repainted, upgraded shift kit and heavy duty Torque converter...looks brand new and shifts nice and smooth. Rear end is ford 8 inch with 311 gears. Great on freeway and helps with gas mileage. Brakes: New Dual Caliber Front Disc Brakes ( original ), brake lines, Vacuum booster, master cylinder, Rear drum Brakes and cylinders, springs and lines etc. Suspension; New shocks and bushings. New Steering arms and bushings….rides nice. Re Chromed bumpers, window frames, trim, door handles etc. New headlights, lamp lenses etc. All New Interior, door handles, all dash and speedo bezels re-chromed. New quartz clock, New Parchment upholstery, door panels, carpet, even the “Lear 8 track tape player” rebuilt with new speakers. New white Convertible Top, Motor, lines and cylinder. Refinished Convertible top frame. All new window fuzzies, door, trunk, hood and top seals. New Gas Tank. New 15 in Torque Thrust Rims and BFG/ TA white letter radials. New Black Lacquer Paint thru out with white GT stripes ( original ) wheel to wheel. Has correct GT hood scoops with New Chrome numbers, trim with working lites. Has Mardi Report with trim tag as well. Even Restored California Black Plates. Modifications; This Fairlane was originally white, with white Parchment interior…but I just had to paint her black…the difference is obvious. She draws a lot of attention and trophies at Car shows… (if you like that sort of thing). I know there is alot more I could share, but I believe that is enough. So after lots of blood, sweat and some tears from busted knuckles.. she is back on the road with a little attitude. Keep an eye out…. Rick Schutte California |
